We are thrilled to announce the official release of KubeTally version 1.16.0, now available as of May 12, 2025.

What is KubeTally?

KubeTally is a resource and cost management feature tailored for Kubernetes environments, designed to enhance visibility, accountability, and optimization of resource usage and associated costs. By integrating seamlessly with Kubernetes clusters, KubeTally enables granular tracking and reporting of resource consumption, offering actionable insights to teams and organizations.

With detailed utilization reports for Persistent Volumes (PV), Load Balancers, CPU, and Memory, KubeTally offers precise, slice-level insights that empower teams to understand and optimize the resource usage.

As Kubernetes deployments grow in size and complexity, manual monitoring and cost tracking become inefficient. KubeTally simplifies resource and cost management by providing clear insights and recommendations. We are continually enhancing KubeTally with new features to ensure it meets your evolving infrastructure needs.

Key Features of KubeTally

  • Cost Visibility:  KubeTally provides real-time insights into resource usage and costs, enabling granular tracking across clusters, namespaces, and workloads.
  • Cost Optimization: It identifies underutilized or overprovisioned resources.
  • Multi-Cloud Support: The tool provides integrated cost and resource visibility across multiple cloud providers and hybrid environments, facilitating streamlined management.
  • Historical Analysis: KubeTally tracks resource trends over time, aiding in capacity planning, cost forecasting, and efficient resource allocation.

Key Highlights in KubeTally 1.16.0

This latest version introduces a range of enhancements, performance improvements, and new features designed to streamline Kubernetes resource tracking and usage analytics.

Dashboard Enhancements

The Overview tab has been updated with enhanced cost visibility through the following tiles:

  • Compute Costs of All Slices: It displays the total compute costs across all slices in a single aggregated view, helping users understand overall resource consumption at a glance.
  • Compute Costs by Slice: Offers a detailed breakdown of compute costs per slice, allowing users to analyze and compare resource usage across different slices.

To improve monitoring and operational insights, the following new tabs have been introduced:

  • Deployment Map: Visualizes the topology of deployments across clusters and slices, enabling quick identification of workload distribution.
  • Clusters: Displays detailed metrics and statuses for all registered clusters, enabling improved cluster management.
  • Health: Displays real-time health status of slices and clusters, helping users quickly identify and respond to issues.
  • Resource Quotas: Displays resource quota allocations and usage across namespaces and slices, supporting more efficient resource planning and governance.
  • Nodes: Lists node-level information, including status, capacity, and usage, offering deeper visibility into infrastructure performance.

Default Slice Support

To simplify onboarding and provide instant visibility into Chargeback data, we have introduced support for a default slice:

  • Every new project now includes a pre-configured avesha-default-slice.
  • This slice automatically onboards all namespaces from registered clusters into a single, unified slice.
  • The availability of the avesha-default-slice enables you to utilize the Chargeback feature, which eliminates the need to manually create a slice.
  • Users retain the flexibility to create additional slices as needed.
  • Avesha manages the lifecycle of the default slice, simplifying maintenance.

This enhancement ensures a smoother and faster onboarding experience while preserving all existing slice functionalities.

Cost Management Improvements

We’ve added more detail to cost reporting to help you better understand and manage infrastructure spend:

  • View cost subtotals for each segment, such as Services, Ingress Load Balancers, and Node Reserve.
  • We've introduced a new Price column in the itemized section to display unit pricing. For example, $0.20 per millicore (hourly).
